Why tame skitterflame

His energy was down to 17 when he advanced and I started to tame. He never got a shot off on me and I took no damage. I guess the main thing here is the use of 1 Ice and 2 Freezing traps.

It worked perfectly and just wanted to share for those who want to tame this best looking spider in game. Hopes this helps add some info! Vorondil of Rexxar. I loooove it when people add helpful info. I know this is an older post, but perhaps someone can help me out. I am Lv, and clearly too strong to chip away at Skitter's health while I kite. I also cannot only drop frost and ice traps because they don't drain him enough between drops.

So, any suggestions? Will this be a tame where I should bring along a lower level friend to do damage while I drop traps to cool him down? Anything at this point will help! I have all the other rares in this region!

I wanna complete the set haha! Friday, July 22, Skitterflame. Skitterflame is a level 85 rare spawn added in patch 4. He can be found in the Molten Front on the south west side of Fireplume Peak hiding in a lava pool. I fumbled one time and ended up killing Skitterflame. I tried this and it works but later on abandoned Skitterflame and tamed him the proper way.

Your email address will not be published. You need this area to kite Skitterflame, and these guys can be a pain. After you get rid of them, dismiss your pet.

Place a Freezing Trap near the small slope in front of where she spawns. Wait for the cooldown of Freezing Trap to come back, then pull. Once Skitterflame lands in your first Freezing Trap, drop a second one a few feet in front of her and start heading left up the path where the Obsidium Punisher guys were. As Skitterflame is passing through your Ice Trap, Superheated will fall off and she will then become tamable.

Good luck! None of the FL spiders share a spawner. Like all FL rare spiders this is a hunter only pet. Skitterflame is a red lava spider with a large hit box so tread carefully near him.

Skitterflame has a buff to begin with called Superheated. This buff means he is too hawt for you and he will not let you tame him. His other buff is called 'Burning Frenzy' which is not as intense as it sounds. What this buff does is increases his damage based on current energy, as his energy is sapped very very quickly this isn't such a biggy.

Like Solix, Skitterflame has an energy bar. Regardless of his HP when his energy runs out he dies. Skitterflame's energy bar drops fast, faster than Solix's, so please always be aware as he is killed by mistake so often because of the loss of his energy. Drag him through lava to reset his energy bar back to The aim of this game is to chill him out so you can tame him.

In order to do this you need to use your frost traps. Frost traps give him a debuff called "Cooling Down" which eventually leads to him dropping his anti-tame buff, however "cooling down" is what drains his energy. The moment his buff is gone start the tame and popping a haste pot isn't a bad idea because if he has the debuff while you tame his energy still drops fast so you want to make sure your tame finishes before his energy reaches 0.

Cooling down looks like a big puff of steam and it steams because he is so hot he just melted your trap into steam. Scare beast or scatter shot or concussion kiting will help you until your trap is off CD.

You will need to break your last trap. Two traps is too little to get him to drop his buff but three traps is too much and it will kill him. Keeping in mind he melts traps fast that means he needs to be in that last trap for a nano second before you need to break him out of it. If you stuff up and almost kill him drag him through lava and his energy goes back to , better to start again then kill him and get a tear. Clear a spot before you start as there are plenty of elementals around.

Wyvern Sting 2. He drops buff while sleeping. Tame while sleeping 4. Laugh at the simplicity of it all. BTW it's OK if this one man handles you because he doesn't hit hard, and you can survive the hits Comment by I tamed this guy early this morning after being one of the first hunters out to the Molten Front.

Figuring that he was easier to tame that Kirix, I decided to give it a shot. After a couple of wipes, I finally figured out a strat that worked well. He was sitting in a pool of lava. I stood on a platform above him and dropped a freezing trap I'm SV spec. I then waited for my freezing trap to come off cd. As soon as it did I tagged him. He came rushing up the wall and straight into my trap. As soon as he was trapped, I dropped another freezing trap, being sure to keep an eye on his Too Hot to Tame buff.

I kited him along the path until I could drop a third and final freezing trap. He was only in it for a few seconds when the buff dropped. I made sure to break the trap so that this guy didn't go belly up he'll die if his energy reaches zero. As soon as the trap broke I started the tame. He bashed on me the entire time, but by then his energy was so low that his hits weren't that hard. Server first tame on Drenden! He sits in a lava pool on the west side of Fireplume Peak By far the easiest one to tame, having MM with readiness helps.

Lay down a trap and pull him. Back off, before the pull, clear out the obsidian punishers to facilitate this and when he breaks hit him with concussive shot and back off. Throw down your new freezing trap and his meter will be around 40 or so when he breaks out of this one, hit readiness and place a new freezing trap down and tame immediately if his energy reaches 0, he dies but your cast will go off before that happens if you don't wait too long.

The best of the spiders I think. At Fireplume Peak 20, It has a buff Burning Frenzy. Increases creature damage based on the amount of energy it has. When it reaches 0 energy, it dies. It's a rare Hunter pet. You need to let it move over icetraps to cool it down.

At 20 energy it is tameable. Comment by mohawkgrenade I just tamed him around pm on Suramar. Comment by aymiah So depressing but.. Was helping out another hunter to try and tame it, but another hunter came up and put down a freezing trap for too long. Hunter I was helping, hope you get him soon. I'll assist you again if he shows up. Comment by I just tamed him about Thunderhorn Servertime. He was waaaaaay to easy. Deth'tilac was much harder, took me a good 20 minutes to tame that one, and i saw the green one get tamed just before i found Skitter.

So within 3 hours i saw 3 of the new rares. I was looking for more places Skarr could potentially spawn Floating rocks around the edge of Fireplume Peak and saw him. How I tamed - Really simple, I used Conculsive Shot to get him to come out of the pool, then I placed a Freezing Trap infront of me, moved back and used Wyvern Sting on him, I tamed him before the sting even wore off, very easy. Hope this helped someone!

Comment by Tarag But why is 3 of the spiders Comment by jezzidele I tamed him this morning at am on Rivendare realm This pet was the easiest that I've come across so far. He's cunning just like any other spider with regular spider abilities. Just super cool looking. Got him on the second try. My trick: Like mentioned before me, freezing trap is a good way to get rid of its energy because he uses his energy to break out of the freeze trap.

Might have to circulate but its worth it. I threw down a trap, and once it was almost done I kept spamming "fear beast" until my CD for the trap was done, then i'd throw down another trap, rinse and repeat.

I'm not sure about lava regenerating its energy, but to be safe.. Comment by I found this unit at 19, 49 in a small lava pool past the Druid of Talon quest givers, beyond the rocks you must jump, and just past the first lava vent. Around 20 energy, the spider will become tameable and you should not have him in anymore traps. Comment by Super easy - Hit him with wyvern Sting, then tame him. You don't even have to be on the ledge with him, I tamed him from the down hill side of the slope.

Worked like a charm! Good hunting all. Comment by Did this tame just using scare beast and putting down a freezing trap, by the time the scare beast had worn off he was tamed never touched the freezing trap. Comment by Does taming Skitterflame produce the same pet as taming a simple Cinderweb Spinner?

Comment by Aravell you do not need to make his energy drop or wait for his buff to go away, im not sure if this is a glitch but all you have to do is use scare beast and then start taming and hell be yours. I have tested this twice and it has worked both times.

Comment by Dont always follow what others post. Comment by Do you have to do anything to get to the said area where Skitterflame is? Comment by Ulvr Was just in the process now of taming this on Dunemaul when Horde hunter named Gurnz turned up and attacked mid tame repeatedly with a group of friends until rez timer was such that he ran off with pet taming it whilst I was waiting on timer.

PvP yes Unfortunately this guy has none. Comment by Easy tame. If you have a MM spec with Readiness use it. Lay first trap and tag, pop readiness, and lay down the next trap so as soon as he breaks he will freeze again. Once he's energy is low enough, scarebeast and tame. Biggest annoyance is people break the traps, but yeh, if you really just want the skin, tame the normal Spiders in the Widows Clutch. Other than that, a nice challenge - well no not really, lol, since all you have to do is lay down freezing traps.

Comment by Oldgoat I got Skitterflame today. I got a Druid to get him to sleep and the I tame him. Comment by Purelife easiest tame. Comment by callucallu i wonder why people need mages or druid Now being a thoughtful Hunter and this being my first encounter with SkitterFlame, I didn't want to risk killing him so I alerted other fellow hunters of his pressence to see what they would do and how they failed in there attempts before i made mine.

A Hunter, Huntress arrived and thanked me for alerting her, she also mentioned that this was just an alt she was playing on and not familiar with any of the new rare pets in Molten Front. Knowing first hand on how hard it is to tame Kirix, Solix and Deth'tilac with out knowing their mechanics I figured Skitter would be the same way, and as this huntress was somewhat of a noob I just sat back to enjoy the show and pick up on what works and what didn't.

To say the least, well thats just it, I was speechless. I was expecting a fight, a scuffle or something. SkitterFlame didn't even come out ot play. What did she do? I asked. Wyrven Sting. Simple, One shot of that, put him to sleep and tame. Could it really be that Easy?

I had to Find out, So I camped, and camped, pm Uther, Skitter respawns in his little comfy pool, so spec'd over to survival, shot him with Wyrven sting and begun my tame. The Easiest Tame of the bunch. Happy Hunting! Comment by Just got Skitterflame tonight on Wyrmrest Accord at p. The trick is to clear a small path on the shelf Skitter is sitting on so you have room, then I alternated frost trap with concussive shot.

I did not dps him while he was in the trap and just let him sit and cool down. Only two traps were enough to get him cool enough, but if he touches you, two good chomps from him and you're history! The most difficult part was honestly other players interfering. I think some thought they were helping, but they would break the ice trap or stun him or just try and kill him outright, which lead to several deaths on my part.

Fortunately, I had a friendly guildie frost mage help out by freezing him in place after my first trap broke while my CD reset, and chase off any stray rock elementals that had respawned. After two traps, I had him cooled down and started taming, when a Draenai hunter showed up and tried to steal the tame from me. Comment by I was in the process of pulling skitterflame off of a stupid priest to help another hunter.

Skitterflame killed him so I was going to pull him and trap him till he got back, but the priest killed the spider. It is so frustrating when all they drop is a tear. You are only pissing us off. Comment by Nathiest As a Hunter I thought this was a bit of a lame rare manly becuase he shares the same skin as a bunch of easy to tame normal red flame spiders.

So I decided to kill him with my pally. Yea that didn't happen. Comment by nonentity Just tried taming this spider, the mobs all around, the earth elementals, the firehawks, were a major pain in the ass. Even if you clear the area before you try the tame - by which another hunter will try it and not thank you for doing the annoying work - by the time you have kited him halfway around most of the mobs will have respawned.

In addition over the few minutes I tried taming the guy a hunter and a shaman appeared. At first I thought the shaman wanted to help the hunter tame it - in the end they killed it! A effing hunter killed this spider, after they saw me try the taming process at least once. PS: There are 10 rare spawns that came in , in patch 4. Comment by UltiLink Just get your friendly neighbourhood warlock to keep him feared while you tame.

Comment by wheels just tamed him a few minutes ago, another hunter helped me since she didn't want him cause of the hunter pact help a fellow hunter out and also the non rares look different then the rares, but not by much.

Comment by Going to share my story here. I haven't really been after any of these challenge tames because the competition is ridiculous and it's just not that srs to me to have these pets asap, I don't mind getting them after everyone else has got them XD But anyway, I ran into this guy doing dailies and watched a horde druid pull him, a hawk and the fun little rock guys in front of me, maybe to try to kill him so I couldn't get the tame, I dunno and them promptly die.

I hadn't really read up on him so I herp derped pull him and kill myself. Tried a freezing trap, still killed me.

I finally started reading and tried again, was doing pretty good and then an orc DK killed him…. Comment by They just need to make all the new challenge tames have Unique skins, Ivv done em all no life but to make it worth while they should. Comment by If you cannot tame this spider within 20 seconds of seeing him Simply use "Scare Beast" and immediately start to tame. It's that simple. Even the so-called challenge of taming this spider doesn't make it special.

Got my haste buff from the thermal vent on the rock ridge to the left, cleared a path for myself on the edge of the Peak, and started kiting and trapping him. On attempt 2, I would have had him, but he evaded because I waited a little to long to shoot him again. Attempt 3 I was really sloppy with kiting him A feral druid was watching me and threw a rejuvenate on me to help out a bit as my health was starting to get low from getting in melee range of Skitter.

I think the thermal buff makes it look like your tame is casting at normal speed, but then suddenly it will end about halfway through and be finished. I don't know if this was intended, but that's what happened for me. I got the jitters with this one lol.

Still waiting for Skarr to show up! Best of luck! Comment by got him at am server time hydraxis all i did was scare beast and tame easy tame didnt lose any health.

Comment by Skitterflame has the exact same model as the non-rare Red Spiders over at the "clutch" by the Forlorn Spire area. Just like Anthriss has the exact same model as the Yellow Spiders in the same area. So don't kill yourself trying to get either of them - there is no Achievement for taming them and nobody will ever know or care that you didn't actually tame the rare one if you gave it the same name.

Deth'ilac, Solix and Kirix are the only unique tamable spider models from the new patch. Skitterflame and Anthriss use recycled models. Comment by zulmas when I read all posts by You : i feel so lame : I had no idea that the spider is there to be tamed only. I spotted him yesterday. I said to myself: "wow, a rare 85, must be some good gear dropping". I died twice, he hit me like 85k, my tank-a-gorilla died after w few secs.

Ty for letting me know that this spider is a non-exotic one, next time we be friends :. Comment by You can easily do this without help from others, if you as Survival get him in a Freezing Trap when he is outside the lava pool of course and then use Wyvern Sting on him right when he comes out of the trap. When he is sleeping you can tame him. Fast and easy :. Same skin as the other spiders, but I know he's "special" Comment by Roughneck06 Just tamed him on us Malygos.

The tip with using roots from druid was awesome! He goes great with death'tilac and kirix which i tamed yesterday. Along with Skarr this morning. Comment by DELcastis concussive shot wyvern sting tame easiest tame ever. Was a very easy tame, trap, shoot him with conc to it, wait for trap cooldown, re-trap, scare beast, tame.

Aggroed two elementals during this, they proved to be of no danger. Comment by Was waiting on Skarr, and he popped up. Was an easy tame. Comment by Traziz Yeah easy, just needs 2 freeze traps, best if you are a MM hunter that way you don't have to wait just use Readiness. Once hes down to 35 energy or below, Scare Beast on him and immediately tame and its done. No need for haste buffs. Infact none of the pets in Molten Front really need haste they all have a unique way of being tamed.

Comment by Alorisstar By far one of the most easiest to tame, all you do is put freezing trap into the lava pool where he is standing then fear beast then tame. You can do it at any percent for his energy. Comment by Alfa Freeze trap in front of the lava pool, shoot him to get trapped in it. Scare beast, tame : but you might as well get one on the other side, same skin :p. My hunter had not finished either of the mark quest so I had to run, die, rez, run to get to the area where the spider is.

You can do this as any spec but I would recomend marks for readiness to reset your cooldowns. Unread post by Novikova » Wed Nov 02, am. Unread post by Sasrei » Sat Nov 05, pm. Unread post by Nightsights » Sun Nov 06, am. Unread post by Dr.

Unread post by Querl Dox » Tue Nov 01, pm I'm not sure if this has been brought to attention here yet but So as everyone here probably knows, Skitterflame our darling red spider, has her debuff "Too hot to tame" as part of her challenge. A few days ago I was browsing the strategy for the various lava spider rares, when I came across Skitter. So this morning, before leaving for class I decided to check on the spiders, and to my surprise I saw Skitter boredly bathing on her usual lava pool.
