What does ohm mean for subwoofers

I upgraded a little I had anew planet audio head unit the bells and whistles are there great price so I got a Rovkford fosgate rx5 and 4 6.

I am looking to purchase a Rockford Fosgate Tbd and 2 fosgate p not sure if I should go with 2ohm or 4 ohm subs? I will be putting this setup in a fox acoustics dqc v box under the rear seat of my ram quad cab. Please help. I was wanting to do infinity kappa series however a friend of mine said I should do fosgate power series any suggestions? These will be powered by a fosgate t Thanks for your time and effort in helping me resolve this audio build delema.

Actually, from an engineering perspective the author is looking at it from the most basic of calculations. Most of the time units with extremely low load resistances are horribly inefficient with the audio signal that is supplied. Many of the people that would be buying sub-woofers at 1 or 2 ohm would be of the sound pressure level SPL competitions and not go for quality. Go with accuracy, keeping all speakers in phase and going for clarity. The more clear and articulate your audio is, you can hear it further away.

What can affect this reactance are many factors, wiring, type of wiring, gauge, what the metal wire is made of, the cladding the covering of the wires , the termination of the wires, etc. In order to move the stiff cones on many of these sub-woofers it takes quite a bit of audio power to find the sweet spot while driving them. Look for speakers that have a higher sensitivity as per Watt and the sensitivity across the operating spectrum, that too fluctuates with the reactance.

If you know how to read all of that data, you can be much more informed buyer and put together the best system that will keep you happy not just during competitions but outside of them, too. Your email address will not be published.

But without knowing precisely what amp and subs you're referring to, we can't help you with accurate advice. If you want a question answered about a system, you must identify the gear by brand names and model numbers so we can get the right information to you.

Anthony, It sounds like you need to talk to an Advisor about what you have, want, and what's possible for your sound system. To start with, sending watts to a speaker rated for will kill it. So there's no reason to describe how to wire them together. Also, tweeters don't off-set power, they play different frequency ranges at the same power level as their matching woofers. Plus, without knowing precisely what amp and speakers you're referring to, we can't help you with advice. Aaron, Yes, two SVC 4-ohm subs can get wired together to form a 2-ohm load.

However, you should be aware that that amplifier is capable of putting out watts RMS at 2-ohms, which is enough to blow those two watts RMS, watts RMS together, rated subs. We recommend getting a less powerful amp for those subs. Give us a call, so an Advisor can help you pick out the perfect gear for your system. Darwin, The output of most amplifiers will react differently to different impedance loads. Theoretically, an amplifier will put out four times the power through a 2-ohm load as it would through an 8-ohm load.

In the practical real amplifier world, the results will vary. Those subs are rated for watts RMS each, so that amp will work well with them wired like this. Raymon, The impedance of a component sub inside a powered subwoofer assembly is irrelevant to any other system consideration and won't affect any other component. Aaron, That amp is powerful enough to fry your rear speakers and subwoofer. But you should be alright as long as you set the amp gain low enough to never allow distortion to play.

Josh, That'll depend on how your present subs are wired. Two DVC 4-ohm subs can be wired as a 1-ohm, a 4-ohm, or an 8-ohm load. If yours are set up as a 1-ohm load, two DVC 1-ohm subs can also be wired as a 1-ohm, so the sound quality and power handling will remain the same.

Subwoofers FAQ Which subwoofer will sound the loudest? The question of which subwoofer is better between a 2-ohm or 4-ohm unit has plagued many a car owner. Normal speakers might give middling bass, but if you want truly get sound, you need o pair your amplifiers and other speakers with a subwoofer.

Now, considering that the question of whether to choose a2-ohm or 4-ohm model comes up, which should you choose? We realize that many car owners are in the dark and need answers.

That is why we have made this post. We will see the differences between these sound systems, the advantages and disadvantages, and consider the features that determine which is better between the two.

They are designed to copy and reproduce the low frequencies from a sound signal. Therefore, to get your car jamming with punchy bass, you certainly need to look beyond the regular speakers and use a subwoofer. While checking out different models on the market, you might be befuddled by the different terminologies thrown around. To make a good decision on the type of subwoofer to choose, you must understand what these terms mean. Resistance is the level of opposition to the flow of electric current in a circuit.

The speaker system comes with resistivity ratings of either 2 or 4. This denotes the resistance level to an audio signal from the amplifier. Sounds go to the speaker and return to the amplifier in the form of an electrical circuit.

Resistivity occurs on different levels; from the speaker wire to the speakers. The amplifier is made to work with speakers within a specific impedance range.

We have briefly discussed the differences between the two. Now, we will further analyse what makes these unit so different from each other.

These units are identified by their rating. Any unit with a resistance rating of 2-ohms is a 2-ohm subwoofer. The implication of the rating is that the resistance value is low. And as any good technician will know, lower resistance values means that the amp can feed the speaker without plenty of resistance.
