Ellis island how much time

This is exactly what we do on our Statue of Liberty Express Tour , which is designed to show you the highlights of the statue as quickly and efficiently as possible. That being said, you could certainly spend even more time if you wanted.

The most exciting thing to see at the statue, in my opinion, is the view from the pedestal. Keep in mind, this is something you can only do with a pedestal ticket.

But the pedestal also involves an extra security screening and a climb up steps. There is an elevator, but it usually has a line. So this is something that takes a good bit of time. A half hour should be plenty of time to climb to the top, enjoy the view, take some nice pictures and climb back down.

Official opening was in May of To see all of Ellis Island would take a few hours. Right from the boat, the first place you should go is definitely the Registry Room.

This is where hundreds of thousands of immigrants would spend hours waiting each and every day. After you take some time to walk around, make sure to also check out the Kissing Post and the Wall of Honor.

You have to take multiple ferry rides and go through a security screening before you board for the first time. How long does it take to get to Liberty Island? If you decide to take the stairs, you will climb the stairs from the lobby to the top of the Pedestal building in 10 minutes.

During peak times, you may have to wait your turn and maybe even let go of a ferry because it was packed. However, tourists are also known to spend up to three hours exploring the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. In effect, during peak times, you will need at least six hours to explore the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Museum to your satisfaction. During non-peak hours, you can explore both these New York attractions in approximately four hours. Some tourists prefer not to go through the five to six hours grueling Liberty visit and instead choose to cruise around the Statue of Liberty.

These cruises are generally one hour long, but they can be three hours long if you opt for the Statue of Liberty dinner cruise. If you plan to cruise around Lady Liberty during the day, check out this minutes cruise or the minute Liberty Cruise. But it was here that many began their American Dream. Make your way up to the second floor for an excellent collection of photos displaying the history of Ellis Island.

The images are haunting and inspiring all at once. On the third floor, you will see a recreation of the sleeping quarters for new immigrants awaiting entrance to New York City. Beds were stacked 3 berths high on canvas cots that could be raised during the day. The third floor also offers an overhead view of the Grand Hall where people awaited their hearings regarding citizenship. We spent quite a while perusing the photos and history of Ellis Island.

By visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island first thing in the morning, we had the rest of the day to explore more sights in Manhattan. These are all walking distance from Battery Park and are must-see attractions when visiting New York.
