Why is the pardoner corrupt

None of the fools want to share it, so they end up killing each other because they all want the gold for themselves. It turned out that Death was under the tree after all, but not in the personified form the fools were expecting. Once the Pardoner finished telling his tale, he could have either gone two routes: 1; acknowledge his reliance on money and repent his actions, or 2; ignore his flaws and return to worshipping money.

What he did was almost the worst case scenario. The Host was outraged, but most of the other pilgrims either fell for his tricks or ignored them, thus contributing to the problem. His ability to preach this way makes him even more evil than what we see on the surface in the General Prologue. Through the Pardoner and his tale, Chaucer can teach readers not to believe everything they hear in the corrupt church world. I still wonder how many of these highly respected church people of the past may have actually lived immoral lives that their communities chose to ignore. He wants to keep his good reputation so he can get money and power out of it.

As the rioters were out on their quest to find death, they find some gold. The youngest goes back to get a few things to help collect the gold and the other two plot to kill him,and the young rioter had poison. Because they all planned to kill each other because they wanted the gold, they found death and death killed them before they could kill him.

People kill, commit crimes, or harm others just to gain something. Greed in society has caused a lot of demolition to the world. Wars have been happening for stuff such as gaining land or power in which have only resulted in the killing of millions of people and destruction.

People choose fame or some type of material over anything and they will do anything to achieve it. Destruction has continued in the world due to greed. Who pardons the Pardoner of his sins as he does the people he robs of their hard earned money?

Is stealing only a sin due upon peasants, or is this simply just another example of hypocrisy within the Christian church. When one combines greed and religion a dark sort of alchemy begins to form known today as corruption.

A plague that not only overwhelmed those of the past, but is also creeping its way into society yet again. The Medieval ages were a time of drastic social and cultural changes in Europe, this change was due to Christianity becoming an extremely dominant religion. Christianity dominated the lives of many and this is why The Canterbury Tales revolved mainly around religion.

Through the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer showed the new Christian values and how different they were from the Anglo-Saxon time period. In addition, this show how Okonkwo would be losing man and why he would feel powerless and worthless, because he is not going to have anyone to protect him.

One of the main things that causes family divorces is one of the spouses is being greedy and selfish. In the book The Pearl, Kino was on the verge of causing his family to split up. When Kino found the pearl all he wanted was to make his son better, but as the story continued on he became more greedy with the pearl.

The theme of the story is greed takes over things you love. Kino proved this theme true by, in the beginning not caring about the money and only caring about wanting his son to get better, in the middle caring a little bit more after getting the first money offer, and in the end kills a man because he was scared he was going to lose the pearl and the money.

Reverend Parris was greedy toward wealth this is evident when parris preaches for weeks about gold candle sticks until he has them as well as the argument parris gets in over his pay including money for firewood or not Miller uses this argument to allow the audience to have a good understanding of who Parris truly is. Putnam used the witch trials as an excuse to get even with his neighbours and get their land. Abigail is greedy for someone else husband- proctor- she acts on this greed by attempting to get Elizabeth proctor hung.

Abigail is also greedy in self interest she would rather turn against proctor- the man she supposedly loves- in order to shield any blame or suspicion from her. Of course, this convinces the people to give him their money, in order to not sin because of their greed. Then, the pardoner gets exactly what he wants. He goes on to admit that he is wholly vicious man with a purpose to win, not to clear people of their sins.

Through this story, Chaucer calls into question the authority of the church since it reveals the hypocrisy within the church. He believes that the Catholic Church does not care about saving people; its officials only care about money and influence. In addition, he strongly opposes the Catholic belief of Penance, which requires sinners to do good deeds to repay their sins.

The Doctor steals from his patients in order to receive an increase in gold from unjust payments. He therefore had a special love for gold. This particular Friar does nothing of the sort.
